And this was another nice day at BrainShare in
Salt Lake city, read more about it below...
Dear all,
BrainShare is well on it's way, here's some more news from day 2 as well as
an important announcement about the Summit, so please read on!
Lot's of GroupWise at BrainShare
As mentioned in yesterday's BrainShare update, GroupWise is certainly
experiencing a positive upswing. The news around the Novell Open Workgroup Suite
and the upcoming GroupWise Mobile Server have been received positively,
especially also by press and analysts. And the many GroupWise Partners in the
Solutions Lab certainly are very present as well, my estimate is that at least
1/3 of the partners in the lab are GroupWise related.
And then there's also this small but important GroupWiseR booth, next to
our NUI friends. Very well visited, lot's of positive feedback. And especially
the GroupWise Powerguide is well received as well, I can't wait until tomorrow,
when I will be able to show the first paper copy to those that are interested.
GroupWise is in a positive upswing, so lets strengthen that and enjoy the
benefits of this: more noise around GroupWise everywhere, here at BrainShare and
hopefully at home in the press as well.
IO118 Tour Novell GroupWise 7 Clients
A very interesting session, not a lot of slides, but the BrainStorm guys
certainly showed a lot of (new) features in the different clients. GroupWise 7.0
really has a lot to offer on Win32, Linux, Apple and WebAccess and this well
delivered session again showed what a rich environment GroupWise really is.
TUT118 Novell GroupWise 7 Technical Overview and
Futures
Phill Karren, GW Product Manager, delivered a successful GroupWise present
& future session today to a packed ballroom, telling about the research
about workgroup related issues, how people deal with mail and other stuff and
how GroupWise should and will be connected to a lot of other solutions in the
near future. Of course the GroupWise Mobile Server is part of that, but there's
other visions and connections, like mySAP, Documentum and more down the road. He
showed a clear future vision and got some interesting questions from the
audience, but all in all very well done and interesting. I'm looking forward to
see him deliver something like this during the upcoming GroupWiseR EMEA Tour
soon. Make sure to visit and promote these events, it will certainly be very
interesting to see him, Bill Pray (also GW Product Manager) or Ken Muir
(Director of Engineering). Check it out at www.groupwiser.net/emea-tour!
More GroupWise sessions ?!
I'm not certain if the number of GroupWise sessions is higher than the
previous years, but my bet is that there have been more people attending
GroupWise sessions than in years before; there is a lot of new excitement around
GroupWise. Unlike the previous years I've not been able to visit many other
GroupWise sessions, as I had to attend the GroupWiseR booth and prepare some
other stuff. But there were lots of them, presented by speakers like Danita
Zanre, Gregg Hinchmann and many more. During the day many people stopped by at
our booth and I've received quite a lot of positive feedback on my session
delivered yesterday.
The GroupWiseR booth - a Big Hit
Thanks to Novell this year we've been able to have a booth again, like in
Barcelona, and that's a big success. Apart from me Tommy Mikkelsen, Arnaud
Delin, John Lincoln and some other people have been representing GroupWiseR at
this booth. And it was also cool to notice so many Americans and Canadians are
interested in what GroupWiseR and the GroupWise User Groups are doing, they
really want to have something like that in the USA and Canada as well. We'll see
what will happen, but there might be some interesting news there soon.
We've also got fans in Brazil, Argentina, India, Japan and Australia,
GroupWise is hot everywhere (shoudl I say: "again"?!) and that's good news!
During the afternoon Jeff Hawkins visited our booth, he's on of the Novell VP's
who's been instrumental in making sure we did get this booth at all. On behalf
of the GroupWise community, thanks very much!
Cool News: the Biggest GroupWise Event Ever!!!
Now here's some cool news: the GroupWise EMEA Summit has been a hit these
last two years already, but with BrainShare EMEA not being there anymore we've
recognized the opportunity to create an even bigger event. And here in the USA
we've seen two successful GWAVACon events these last two years, so
the GroupWiseR initiative and GWAVA
are happy to announce that they've bundled forces and together they will create
the biggest GroupWise event ever. The event will be held from October 1 till
October 4 in Munich, Germany, so the attendees can enjoy the Oktober-fest
atmosphere as well. And we're certainly working on more, we're even thinking
about combining this with a ZENWorks Summit, more at www.groupwisesummit.net, www.gwavacon.com and www.zenworker.net.
The BrainShare Sponsor Night
Like previous years the Tuesday evening was used for the Sponsor night,
with food, drinks and entertainment in the Sponsor area. The GroupWiseR booth
was opposite one of the food and drink stalls and a lot of people also stopped
by to discuss the GroupWiseR initiative and the good progress we've seen.
Actually, many of the North Americans were a bit jealous about all these
thriving GroupWise User Groups in Europe and Middle East, so we discussed with
them the option to create something similar here as well. We'll see what comes
out of this...
OK, that's it for now, make sure to check out www.groupwiser.net/emea-tour and
register for this great series of events soon. I hope to see you there, have fun
with GroupWise.
Kindest regards,
Erno de Korte
