Presenting Good Traditions - Queen's Birthday, Open Horizons EMEA Tour and Regional Summits |
Today it's orange madness
again in the Netherlands as we celebrate the Queen Beatrix Birthday - fun, free-markets, food and festivities in each and every small village
and big city all over the country. It's an old tradition and there's
this funny
thing with traditions - everybody likes this celebration even
though our Queen Beatrix's birthday is really January 30! We're actually
celebrating the birthday of the Queen Mother, as we think in the Netherlands the changes of good
weather on April 30 are much better than on January 30 ;-).
The good thing about traditions is that you
can rely on them, it's often fun and a special occasion to celebrate and meet
people. The people behind GroupWiseR build traditions themselves, read more here.

Novell's Cash Cow - How NetWare almost killed the company |
My last blog I wrote briefly about the idea of killing the company's cash cow. Laura Ries, in her Ries Report argues that Microsoft Windows is a cash cow that needs killing. I will address that idea in the future, but for now I want to discuss how Novell's cash cow, NetWare, nearly destroyed the company and how Novell became a perfect case study for killing the cash cow. |

Jeff Jaffe’s Blog: Future Roadmap |
In my last two postings, I introduced Novells future vision for an agile infrastructure to support computing and collaboration. I described the CIO motivation, eight use cases which make agility compelling, technology megatrends which make this possible, and the seven key technology areas which will allow the realization of this vision. These seven areas are: policy, identity, virtualization, Linux, orchestration, compliance and collaboration. In this posting, I will describe our roadmap for these seven areas. |

GMS on Linux now available |
GMS on Linux is now available for download in the final version at download.novell.com and it immediately hit the top-10 list of downloads. Last week it was shown already at the EMEA Tour event in Sofia (BG) and now you can try this yourself - this is the first commercial-grade wireless PDA synchronization solution on Linux. Unique is that the end-user experience is still the same, so like with GroupWise it does not matter if you run the back-end on Windows or Linux. |

Thoughts on Migrating GroupWise from NetWare to Linux |
A Forum reader recently asked: "I am starting with OES (NetWare) SP7, GroupWise 7 SP2a, 2 POA's, 1 Domain, 1 GWIA, and 1 Webaccess agents. I want to port all of this over to OES Linux SP2.
I have heard all kinds of advice on how to partition, what sizes to use, what file system to use, etc, and really do not know who to believe. I have heard "Just do a single / and you'll be fine". I have also been given the 15 partition list. I tried the migration about 2 years ago and found it VERY painful.

Bulgaria: Report from Erno de Korte about 1st Open Horizons Event 2008 |
The Bulgarians are very proud about many things - perhaps even more about their ancient history than the more recent history and I believe they have every reason to be proud about everything. These last 36 hours I have been in Sofia (BG) to present a number of sessions with my great Bulgarian friend Svetlin Petrov. In addition, these 36 hours have been much like the rollercoaster ride that I have been enjoying this last weekend with my children at Walibi World (NL). Ride along and allow me to explain what I mean with this, I kindly invite you to read on.

Novell Announces SUSE Appliance Program |
Novell today announced the creation of the SUSE(R) Appliance Program to enable independent software vendors (ISVs) to create appliances combining their applications with the SUSE Linux Enterprise platform in one integrated package for end-customer deployment. Novell also announced the beta release of SUSE Linux Enterprise JeOS, a minimized version of the award-winning SUSE Linux Enterprise platform that ISVs can use as a platform for creating appliances. As a result, ISVs will realize simplified application deployment and support while dramatically reducing development costs and easing deployment of applications by end customers. |
